New Facility Available from August 26
Lloyds Bank introduces a barcode-based cash deposit service available at PayPoint stores nationwide.
Lloyds Bank will introduce a new mobile phone facility from August 26, which will enable customers to deposit cash in over 30,000 PayPoint locations throughout the UK. The service will allow deposits of up to £300 a day and £600 a month using a barcode scanned within the “Everyday” page of the Lloyds mobile app.
The barcode will remain valid for two hours from the date of issue and can be redeemed at PayPoint locations, 94% of which open seven days a week. With 99.5% of the population within a mile of an existing PayPoint shop, the service extends convenience to customers seeking alternative deposit services.
How the Barcode Deposit System Works
The customer will earn access to the feature by creating a barcode through the Lloyds app that will then be scanned in participating PayPoint stores. After presenting the barcode and reloading cash, the money will appear in the customer’s account in minutes.
The new service will be available to Lloyds Bank customers and customers who bank with its subsidiaries Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Customers will also be able to locate their nearest PayPoint via the Lloyds app or PayPoint’s site.
Expanding Banking Access Beyond Branches
Lloyds Bank has also confirmed that its customers can still make cash deposits through its branches, as well as Halifax and Bank of Scotland branches. Cash-in and cash-out machines are also available across the country for added convenience.
The Post Office Banking Hubs are also present for customers wanting direct access. In addition, more than 11,500 Post Offices across the UK will also continue to offer deposit and withdrawal facilities to Lloyds account holders.
PayPoint’s Role in the Service
PayPoint’s store network offers numerous daily essentials, including banking, bill payments, parcel delivery, and gift card purchase. Through the agreement with Lloyds, consumers will be able to combine cash deposits with their daily routine activities, such as collecting parcels or shopping for household items.
Nick Wiles, PayPoint CEO, said that the convenience and accessibility for people up and down the country will be boosted by the ability of Lloyds customers to pay in cash at more than 30,000 PayPoint outlets.
Customer Benefits of the New Feature
This new product is an easy and quick method of putting coins and banknote deposits together without entering a traditional bank branch. It also offers an alternative to residents of areas recently affected by bank closures.
Customers can deposit coins and banknotes alongside everyday shopping or parcel collections.
Customers can have more than one task completed on a single visit, and it is therefore more convenient to carry out routine banking along with other tasks. The system is poised to provide customers with more flexibility over when and where they access banking services, Lloyds says.
Bank’s Statement on the Initiative
Gabby Collins, director of payments at Lloyds, explained the new facility gives customers an easy and convenient method of paying in cash when they are making everyday transactions or dropping off parcels. She added that there is currently no other UK bank which offers as broad a range of money management solutions as Lloyds.
The bank sees this as being part of its broader strategy of delivering flexible banking solutions to meet changing customer behavior and the new retail banking landscape.
Industry Perspective on Banking Accessibility
While many banks have reduced branch networks in recent years, new technology is expanding access to essential services. Financial service experts note that innovations like Lloyds Bank’s barcode cash deposit feature require secure systems and consistent monitoring to ensure smooth customer transactions.
